“Acte III Scene I La Clairière” (The Clearing) is a magnificent Hermès scarf design created by Édouard Baribeaud in 2018, inspired by Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This stunning piece is a must-have for any serious Hermès collection.
Baribeaud’s design illustrates Act III, Scene 1, where tradesmen rehearse their play in a magical forest. Robin Goodfellow mischievously transforms Bottom’s head into that of an ass, leading to Titania, queen of the fairies, falling in love with him under the spell of enchanted flowers. Baribeaud’s interpretation pays homage to Baroque theatre, Indian miniatures, and early cinema, capturing the scene’s whimsy and theatricality.
This piece has been meticulously mounted onto a three-part fabric backing, with a silk top layer. The scarf has been professionally pressed, invisibly hand-stitched and expertly framed.
